Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a session look like?
The details will vary, but my role is to listen and understand the problem and then provide a framework for you or your child to make changes, heal from past trauma, and improve the issues that made you seek treatment.
With children, play therapy is uniquely suited to their growth. Children benefit greatly from the ability to communicate and work on issues through play.
What is play therapy?
It may sound like it, but play therapy is not teaching children how to play. Children play-- it's what they do. Play is how they process the emotional world they live in. Children do not yet understand abstract thought and rational logic. Play therapy is using a playful environment to allow children to work through whatever issues they need to address. It is a type of behavioral therapy which is extremely effective with most conditions and most populations.
Your first meeting with me will be without your child, so I can hear more about what is leading you to seek help. This is also a great time to learn more about the process of play therapy and what results you can expect for your child.
What if I want to use insurance?
I am in network with Cigna, Aetna, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Some insurance plans also allow you to pay for services and then file claims for reimbursement.
What if I do not have insurance?
Self-pay is always an option. Some prefer self-pay for privacy or other reasons even when they do have insurance.
Where will we have sessions?
1733 Briarcrest in Bryan, Texas. By appointment only.
